If you have more than one person in your home who will use the Windows Vistabased PC, you should create a user account for each of them. It's simple to do; just type the user name and configure a few settings, and you're off. Giving each person a user name (and password they control) will let them keep their data private from others who use the computer, will let them have their own settings for Windows Mail and Windows Internet Explorer, and more.
To create a new user account, follow these steps:
- In the Welcome Center, double-click Add New Users. You can also perform this task by using the User Accounts And Family Safety item in Control Panel.
- Under User Accounts, click Add Or Remove User Accounts.
- Click Create A New Account.
- Type the new account name, and select Standard User or Administrator.
- Standard User Select Standard User for most new users. This account type lets the user access most software and change system settings that do not affect other users or the security of the computer.
- Administrator Select Administrator for those users who need complete access to the computer. Keep administrators to a minimum. This account type offers the user complete access; an administrator can make changes to the computer that affect every user, that affect system security, and that affect stability.
- Click Create Account.
You can manage the new account at any time. The best time is right after creating it. Click the new account to make changes to it, including creating a password, changing the picture, setting up parental controls, and changing the account name. (If desired, return to the Welcome Center.)
